upgrade to ROSv3 locks up on reboot

I upgraded to ROSv3 by putting the npk file on the DoM using FTP but upon reboot it gets to “Uncompressing Linux… OK, booting the Kernel” & just hangs up. No other messages, keyboard unresponsive. Tried upgrading via NetInstall but same result. Put 2.9.43 on it and it came up OK (it had 2.9.42 on it before). Any suggestions?

Probably you are using specific hardware, provide us with general details about used hardware (you did not mention anything about this).

I was using an HP LP2000 with onboard Intel Pro 100 NICs and a PQI DoM when I had this problem. This hardware works fine with 2.9.42 & 2.9.43 but doesn’t seem to work with v3.0.

I upgraded another system I had that uses an Intel D945GCCR motherboard with onboard Intel 82562 NIC & it upgraded fine, but the NIC isn’t recognized and I had to use an IDE HDD because it wouldn’t recognize my DoM.

By the way, the only reason I’m trying v3.0 is because I’m having a lot of trouble finding any currently available motherboards that ROS supports. Normis had recommended I go to v3.0 because it supported current hardware, but my experience so far with it has been no better than with 2.9.x. So, this issue is really a dead one for me since my whole goal was to get the newer Intel 82562 NIC recognized, which v3.0 doesn’t seem to.

Thanks.

Didnt want to create new topic so i will use this one.

I have problems getting ROS v3 to run on my old compi.
Its an Celeron 366 on mobo with VIA chipset (Apollo PRO133)

System hungs just after showing
“Uncompressing Linux… OK, booting the Kernel”

Its an beta 9 version.
I installed it on 128Mb CF Kingston on Toshiba CF-IDE adapter.
I had no problems with 2.8 and 2.9 versions of ROS.

The system works fine on my other ompi, Sepmpron 64bit 2.6 on Gigabyte mobo with VIA K8T800 chipset.

I hope next beta will solve this

I have the same problem with v3 rc05 on intel motherboard dg33fb and core2duo e6750.

This is the link of my post.
http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/could-not-get-r05-to-boot-on-intel-dg33fb-motherboard/16145/1

so, this is not an isolated problem.

same problem with PC. (asus P4P800MX P4 1.6Ghz, RouterBOARD 44 NIC, 512 RAM) After upgrade to ROS3rc5 from ROS 2.9.46, router stop respond after 10 seconds working.
When I plug IDE Flash on another PC - ROS boot normally.

I have seen this on some of the older / smaller flash modules..

The modules (in my case a 64MB) did not have enough space to hole both the ols code and the new code and then properly install it on reboot.

I used NetInstall (Using the save settings option) and here is what happened.

  1. It read the config that was on the DOM.
  2. It formatted the DOM.
  3. It copied the new files to the DOM.
  4. It restored the configuration to the new ROS.

(IT = NetInstall)

On reboot all was well..

Give it a try.. (I would backup my config of course…)

Craig

been doing some little experiments with two 128 megs Trancend DOMs with mikrotik licenced v4 upgradable to v3.x .

first DOM was able being installed with ROS v2.9.44-v3.rc8 (tried with 2.9.44 from the seller, 3.rc4, 3.rc8)
but the second one didn’t have the same luck,
i tested with ROS v.2.9.44 from the seller, works OK
tested with ROS v2.9.35 works OK,
tested with ROS v3.rc4 works OK
tested with ROS v3.rc7 and v3.rc8 didn’t work.

i’ve upgraded/downgraded from v3rc4 to v.3rc8 vice versa a couple times
but result still the same, v.rc4 works fine but v3rc8 didn’t and displaying an error message:
Loading System… Booting from kernel
ERROR: cannot find disk!
please attach it somewhere else.

weird huh..??

someone said this earlier i think… has to do with sda vs hda i believe. common linux problem.

ahhh, great…

and… what about the people who doesnt understand about that linux things? :frowning:

upgrade to rc9, i believe it fixes this issue.

No, it still doesnt.

Hi all,

I’m currently running Router OS 2.9.42 and want to upgrade to the new 3.0 RC9 to see what it looks like. I do not want to gamble all my APs and Proxy Servers, maybe just 1. Are there any drastic changes to know about? I remember when I upgraded from 2.8.x to 2.9.x the hotspot wwas changed and everything went haywire for me. Also I notice there is no webproxy package in 3.0, what happened to it? What happens to users like me running the transparent webproxy the former Router OS use to have?

Hi,

Here i have same problem. I have many types of hardware and on upgrade from ROS2.9 to ROS2.9 not occurs BUT when the upgrade is to ROS3rcx ( from ROS2.9 of ROS3rcx ) the proble occurs aleatory… to slove i reinstall ROS3rcx from CD and the problem disapears… the inconvinient is that i need to be present at the side of all my routers to upgrade them ( i have a lot of routers in many cities ) …:frowning:

@MK TEAM : PLEASE SLOVE THIS…

To all:

Are you sure that your hardware is compatible with latest LinuX kernel 2.6.2x.x. ? i noticed some problems (box was dead after few seconds after restart), and had to downgrade my Linux distributions back to kernel 2.6.17.

As far as I know Mikrotik RouterOS is going hand-to-hand with the latest Linux Kernel.
