Upgrading 2011 to 1100 to CCR

We are outlining a plan for upgrading Mikrotik Hardware, and before we get too far down the road, we want to be sure we’re not setting ourselves up for a future issue/failure.

A client currently is running on a RB2011UiAS-2HnD-IN (but the wireless is disabled). We expect to need additional CPU and memory soon, so we would like to upgrade to RB1100AHx2. We also expect in the future the need to upgrade to: CCR1036-12G-4S within another year or two.

Now for a couple questions:

#1: Is there any way to take our current configuration on the RB2011 and have the router effectively backup to an installation script? With a script, rather than restoration file, we can easily document line by line our unique configuration of the router. Save it, train with it, etc.. This would also make it easier to adjust and/or use the script for loading the configuration onto the RB100AHx2 or for loading into other routers for use with other clients.

#2: If we backup the image on the RB2011 and then upload it onto a RB1100, what can we expect? Is there a way to see if there are any errors and configuration settings that are not implemented in the upgrade?

#3: Any other recommendations on best practices from the community?

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

if you want to migrate configuration to another router do ‘/export’ (if you are a newest version) and save it to file. Download it, check if anything unnecessary is there.

now exact answers to your questions:
#1 Do export/edit/import to move configuration between routers. Router will export only what you have changed from default

#2 if you load backup file to another router - expect trouble. If you load on router with from same line, like another RB2011 everything might work, just note that you are moving even MAC address configuration.

#3 to move configuration always use /export
