Upgrading a level 4 licence board to 3.x

In your licencing matrix you say level 4 licences have routing support but then you have a note there that says

(V3 = no)

Does that mean that If I upgrade to v3.x I will loose all routing support on the installation? There is no mention about what the note means anywhere, so this is what I assume.

This will probably mean that the L4 licence is useless to us if upgraded, as our routers require at the very least OSPF support.

There was post by Normunds here that at least RIP and (I seem to remember) probably OSPF will stay in level 4 even for RouterOS 3.x.
Look for it in the forum - he wrote something like “don’t take this features description serious before 3.x is released” or the like

Perhaps Normunds wants to jump in here…

Christian Meis

You mean, they are just willing me to pay twice as more (for level 5) as i am doing, and then after all they will just say that routing will be included in 3.x for level 4, and all my levels 5 will be just worth as much as level4?

Nothing will surprise me here…

As far as remember He is never jump to this forum,…
cos Normunds isn’t Normis i think…

Just my suggestion:
when Normunds is my support, and Normis is my best friend…

last year ago i did talk by phone to him[Normunds] nice…i not remember maybe 3-4 times i called him..

Peace all

no, didn’t you read what christian said? RIP and OSPF is present in v3 Level4.

i have seen configs with 40 clients, bunch of VLANs and BGP routing :open_mouth: :open_mouth: :open_mouth:

so they will need to reconfigure their network usiing OSPF  and thats all.
as OSPF is internal and BGP more like external routing protcol (if talking about AS)

I bought bunch of levels 5 because that is wroted on mikrotik pages:

level 4: RIP, OSPF, BGP protocols yes (V3 = no)

And now you said ospf will be included in level4…, that good to hear for those who have level4, but I arleady spend my money for level 5 to have ospf in v3 wchich is twice more expensive.

That what I mean…

v3 is not even released yet! anything could change!

Agreed, but perhaps it wouldn’t hurt to put a notice next to the license level explanations that states that all information on 3.x is preliminary and may change without further notice until 3.0 is released?

Best regards,
Christian Meis

it’s there

Well instead of moaning and groaning you could have just asked about the licence as I did instead of assuming and buying a level 5.

So the official word is .. Probably keep OSPF with level4 V3.x but dont bet the farm on it as we may at a whim change our minds?

yes - no farm on OSPF :unamused:

actully i’m pretty sure that ospf will be included in L4. BGP for X86 will be in L5. at least that’s the plan for now.

that’s the solution for all of us , that we want BGP but we cant effort the cost of upgrading to level 5. We are … the simple users .. no company.

But I cant understand why the BGP ? ? ? what is the skeptical behind all this ?

Maybe the routes that it capable to announce the router to be a criterion.

Lets say Less than 1000 routes needs level 4
more than 1000 routes needs level 5

I think this is more fair . . .

OSPF in Level 4 is great. BGP only in L5 for I386 is very fair too.

Think about the cost you paying when you use a standart BGB solution like CISCO …

that was my point - there is no need in BGP in example i mentioned. everything can be easily done using OSPF. BG in this situation is waste of resources. like hunting a rat using dynamite, land mines and tanks.

but if you still want to do this that way - open up you wallet.

EDIT:

example for IT Crowd: every server in rack mount has to have at least 30" monitor attached, otherwise it is no server. :unamused:
