Upgrading Firmware: Basics I can't find in the FAQ / Wiki

Hi, thanks for taking the time to read my post.

I have a couple basic questions on upgrading firmware that I am surprised to not see in the FAQ or Wiki, at least in the spots regarding upgrading or downgrading. I also searched Google a few times and have come up short.

Question #1: When upgrading firmware, should I upgrade the firmware on the CPEs or the APs first? If I upgrade the APs first, will the CPEs lose connection? I am at least one major revision and multiple minor revisions behind the newest firmware. What is the upgrade process for this? Upgrade the APs to a newer, but not the latest, firmware version, then do the same on the CPEs, then upgrade the APs to a newer one, and repeat the process on the CPEs until I am at the latest version?

For example: I have an AP and CPEs running v5.22. Do I need to press ‘Check for Updates’ on the AP first, upgrade to 5.26, then do the same thing for the CPEs? Then once the CPEs and APs are at 5.26, repeat this process until I am at v6.9?

i.e.,

AP: 5.22 > 5.26
CPE: 5.22 > 5.26

AP: 5.26 > 6.9
CPE: 5.26 > 6.9

Is this the correct process?

Question #2: When I press ‘Check for Updates’ under System > Packages, it says the latest package is 5.26. I am running 5.22. When I upgrade to 5.26, and then press ‘Check for Updates’ again, will it continually give me the newest package I can upgrade to until I reach 6.9?

All of my units are using firmware 5.22 or around there.

Best upgrade accesspoints first than cpe’s the CPE’s will lose connection for a short time
You can press the button “check for updates” or folow this procedure

This is the upgrade procedure that i made http://www.wirelessinfo.be/index.php/mikrotik/pages/upgrade

downgrade see you here http://www.wirelessinfo.be/index.php/mikrotik/pages/downgrade.

Thanks plisken, that helped me out enough to get some courage to go ahead and test it. I didn’t see anything in your response or website about going from 5.22 directly to 6.9, but I was successful in going from 5.22 to 5.26, then manually uploading the 6.9 mipsbe packages to the MT device, and rebooting. After you get to 5.26, the ‘Check for Updates’ button on the packages list tells you that 5.26 is the latest version; so I had to download 6.9 and move the files over manually, which worked either way. Thanks again!
