Upgrading of historical boards - can't get to 4.x

Hi guys,

friend of mine started to upgrade his whole network to newer RouterOS versions (client devices) for the first time ever, unfortunately. We have problems to get really old boards to higher versions. RB 112 and RB133c won’t upgrade to 4.17, because license says upgradable to is 3.x. It is already new license format, updating says it is already up to date.

I’ve tried even routerboard upgrade, but it didn’t help it. It is a few years since I worked as ISP admin and did this myself, but I don’t remember steps necessary to get it further. I only remember that i was running some RB133c even 5.26. Yeah, it was pain in the …, but 4.17 would be nice. He needs to get somewhere close to set “wireless protocol” feature. Is there any way to get it higher except netinstall and if not, will netinstall work? I know it would be easier to replace the board when somebody gets close enough to it to us netinstall

Thanks for any help or clue

The best solution is to export the license info to a file, then netinstall and once that is done, make a supout.rif file and email to support
Support will make a new key tied to this SN

From memory you need to get it to 3.30 first

Hi Normis,

thank you for quick reaction. Decision will be on my friend. Replace boards or follow your solution. It is about 45 devices.

nickshore: already there. Everything except some old 5xx devices with limited time for upgrade. Those are stuck at 2.x.x
