I want to upgrade a RB1100AH from 4.17 to 5.14 because I need the GRE tunnel feature introduced with version 5.x.
The board is in production and about 500 kilometers away, so I just want to know if there are any known issues with 5.14 (e.g. port flapping, booting with attached modem on serial port) or generally by upgrading to 5.14 from 4.17?
Anyone who did this upgrade? Some field reports are very appreciated.
We have had issues with upgrades to RBās running VPLS tunnels where the tunnels would not work after the upgrade. We exported the config, reset-defaults the imported it back to fix it.
Thank you for this hint! This is exactly the information I was looking for. We do not run MPLS on this board⦠but OSPF, some IPIP tunnels, PPPoE-Servers and a lot of traffic management.
I did an update last night, without any problems. The board is now up for almost eight hours and all services seem to be running as requiredā¦
I did the upgrade from 4.17 to 5.14 on a RB1100AH about a week ago. Upgrade seemed to go ok, and router has been operational and working since.
Only thing I noticed is that it runs alot on 100% CPU since then(Opposed to ±25-30% before on 4.17). Only runs lower when there is very low throughput, wich there seldom is.
Only difference in config since I had 4.17 is that I started using 1 of the switch groups as a switch with 5 connected cables, but the switch groups have their own switchchip, so canāt see why this should affect CPU. Since the switch is supposed to run without using CPU.
So I guess it must have some connection with the Ros upgrade from 4.17 to 5.14.
@Basdno: Interesting info about the CPU usage⦠I will check this on my board and compare with the CPU usage values in the past. But at first I have to update my Nagios configuration as the SNMP OIDs have changed after the update.
I tried disabling the switch-group again, reverting all use of the unit back to the exact way it was used before upgrade to 5.14(and after a couple of days 5.15), but still the RB1100AH used 100% CPU almost(!) all the time(90-95% of time). The only times I saw it go down a bit was in the middle of the night when there was very little traffic.
I now reverted back to Ros 4.17 2 days ago, and all is back to normal, moving between 10-15 up to 45% on max during the dayā¦
So⦠I guess there must be something with Ros 5.x that makes the CPUs on powerpc-routers go crazy and work a lot of unnecessary overtime at 100%!
Iāll be leaving it at 4.17 until I can get my hands on a āCloud Core CCR-1036ā. ;D
My http service s running 60% + on my hotspots. Sergejs reckons an upgrade to 5.16 will fix it, Iām going to upgrade a couple in the AM. Will let you know how I get on.
