Upgrading to RouterOS 4.0

Please clarify:
The update process discribed in the PDF is cloudy at best in its discription…

  1. Update the Bootloader if using a RouterBOARD
  2. If already running RouterOS v3.25 or newer, Update your RouterOS license
  3. If you will use Netinstall for installation, make sure you have the latest version of Netinstall

I have about 8 routers to upgrade and I want to get this right the first time.
I did find the wiki about the Bootloader upgrade and that explianed how but not the ‘does this apply to my routers?’ question.
The routers that I can upgrade.
The majority of these are RB450 where System > Packages > RouterBoard is v3.30.
Do I still need to upgrade the Bootloader on these?
System > License > Upgradable To field indicates v4x.
What happens when I click Upgrade license key and is that all I need to do?
Do I assume that it just goes out to your server and gets a new key? If so, is the router then ready for the new OS?
OR
Do I still need to purchase an upgrade license first, then import the key and then install the new OS?
OR
Do I just use the Buy New Key button and then install the new OS?

With all these options on the License window, it is really confusing as to what I need to do and what step by step process should be for our particular routers.

NOTE I did find the wiki about licenses which did not explain the ugrade process.

Thank you.
