ups !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

does mikrotik only support apc upses or can we add in diffrent models as i cant get my pss pro bs-2200 ups working with mikrotik i trye the cabale that came with the ups and tryed to make one up but when i add the ups it stay red

can anyone help me or tell me why it does this i have it set up on x86

use any UPS you want, but Monitoring ability you will get only with SmartUPS

i see any smartups or do you have list of models that work

If such a list would exist, where do you think could we be hiding it? correct, in the manual:

http://www.mikrotik.com/testdocs/ros/3.0/ha/ups.php

Under “Specifications” the link “APC’s smart protocol” is dead!

Or use a UPS which support SNMP management.

Or use special UPS.
http://tandem.ck.ua/ups_mt-eng.php

Mikrotik does not yet support SNMP module UPS!!
http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/snmp-and-ups-status/13600/9

That Link indicates that ROS only supports APC, which is what i thought.

Almost got excited…

The good news is that we tried to connect a brand new APC UPS that has USB port to the RouterBOARD 433U and it works perfectly. UPS status is displayed immediatelly. We also tried serial port, and it also works.

I hope that in future we will add also other protocols, but of course APC is the most popular. Do you have any suggestions on a common protocol that many devices share (not something proprietary for one brand again)? Or do all UPSes have different protocols for monitoring?

MAYBE THIS CAN HELP

IT WOULD BE NICE IF ALL UPSES CAN BE SUPPORTED

http://3d2f.com/tags/ups/protocol/

we won’t support all protocols, that’s impossible. maybe you can suggest one popular protocol?

Well over hear APC is one of the least popular brands unfortunately.

What i would suggest would be to integrate NUT into ROS.
http://www.networkupstools.org/

Then it will take out the work of having to support differant protocols youreself.

I have found the Protocol “Megatec” to be the most popular with entry level over the shelf UPS’s.
Otherwise MGE seems to be another popular choice on the higher end, but there i cannot give any info on what protocol they use.

You see if ROS had to implement NUT in ROS there would be endless benefits without development there off.
NUT provides functions that allow multiple devices to be shut down via one central device monitoring the UPS.

IE. ONE rb will have the UPS connected to its serial , however in reality there are say 4 RB’s operating on the same UPS. Normally only one could in fact monitor the UPS and be shut down correctly without some hardcore scripting involved.
NUT will enable the other RB’s to connect to the one that IS monitoring it and they will ALL be able to shutdown successfully.

Also there is windows based clients that can allow people to view the input/output voltage/battery voltage remotely in a graphical way.

eg.

And best of all They already support most UPS’s!

Really hope my input can help!

we can’t integrate 3rd party software because it will have to be constantly upgraded, we won’t know it’s security holes, we will depend on other developers etc etc. therefore, we make our own stuff.

Pity..

I do know that you have been doing this for a number of features, but if you don’t mind me asking don’t you still use 3rd party in any case still?

of course we do, but whenever we can, we make ourselves. quagga is not used anymore

I vote for IPPON UPSes =) We have them on each routing node.

They use Centralion UPS protocol - http://www.ippon.ru/data/download/comm_protocol.zip

As of November, 2007: “IPPON uninterruptible power supplies: over 2.5 million sold devices, 35 % of Russia’s UPS market
And “Centralion Industrial Inc. was founded in 1979 and is recognized as a progressive provider of power protection solutions efficiently against every day power problems.”

Are there any chances the support of this will be added?

GE (General Electric) UPS’ is the 2. largest on the market, and MGE is the 3. largest…
IPPON is not seen as a big player around the world… they have about 35-40% of the russian market yes, but useless to the rest of us!
And alot of the small players on the market use custom GE UPS’.
MicroDowell is also one of the most used around the world, and cheap

But using SNMP will be the best solution for all, but then again not all UPS’ has this function.

IPPON is Russian brand for Centralion Industrial Inc. products

IPPON??? WTF…

Never heard of that one ;>

thavinci, can you read English? =)
