is it possible to use both antennas for rx & tx ?
i have two panel antenna’s to cover my two neigbours ?

If you want to attach two antennas to the two antenna ports and use each for both tx and rx - no, that won’t work…
What is your exact problem with using an omni? You are writing about connecting to two neighbours, so distance should be short. Do you have line of sight to both? What is your config/setup?
Perhaps tell us a bit more and we’ll see if there’s another solution.
(You could of course just put a second wireless interface into the system if you want to create two point-to-point links…)
Best regards,
Christian
OK !
at 1st a question is it hw base or os based that i can’t do that (e.g. my wrt does it) ?
to my “problem” i hva e2 neighbours (let’s call them #1 and #2)
#1 is next to my house approx. 30 m away
#2 is approx 140m away
to #1 i have perfect LOS
to #2 i have “bad” LOS (some trees but link with 2 allnet bridges was working with about 24-36 Mbit)
with #2 i’m using a Suhner&Huber 14dBi Panel antenna
with #1 i’m using no name 11dBi Yagi
both are on top of my house.
i also have on top of my house a 14 dBi Omni (nynex afaik about 3660/5 degrees beam)
So point is #1’s house i to far down that i can geht him with the Omni (he is using a Linksys WUSB54G) and with the Omni i have only 1-2 Mbit (because beam just “touch” his house. (because his client is located in 1st floor and the dist from his 1st floor level to my roof is about 8 meters
#2’s house is to far up and i get much less bandwith (so that streaming video is not longer possible)
at the moment i’m running with #2 2x WRT54G in WDS mode on thes 2 panel antennas (he has the same as i have) with #1 on my side an Allnet 275+)
2nd antenna of my WRT i cover my house => that my WL-HDD in living room can send some “information” to #1 ![]()
BTW: where i can find a example for WEP/WPA/WPA2 Setup for AP and WDS mode ? in the manual i do not really understand that all
Ciao Gerd
Ah, I see. So the small vertical beam width of you omni is killing you… Not much to do against that (apart from perhaps using another omni with larger vertical beam width).
Regarding the “my WRT is using two antennas”: This is something called “diversity” - but that’s not two seperately usable wireless interfaces. It’s just the WRT transmitting and listing on two antennas simultaneouly…
Christian
Hm…didnt know that wrt can lisen and transmit on both antennas simultaneouly? How does it do it, if it has a diversity chip on exit…didnt know that divercity chip can act as a spliter…
But this is exactly what i would need… attach on each port a panel antenna to cover the required areas.
OK but as i know if i use a Omni with a larger vert beam i usually do not get that much bandwith to neighbour #2 (because of system)
For me diversity would be perfect…
I don’t know exact spec of WRT but i have attached 2 Antennas (Panel for #2) and the small shipped Omni for my house.
If you don’t use the omni for anything else, then you can tilt it a bit towards #2…
/HP
it would look kind of ugly…
BTW: in my discription is maybe missing that our houses are to each other like a triangle…
when i look straight to #1 i have #2 on the right side some degrees more..
OK to find solution for my weird plans i’d like to give you what i would like to do (i thought about it and as more i think about it as more i think i need to upgrade my rb532 at least with a rb502 ![]()
so at least 2 and 3 could be done if i could use both ant ports on my minipci card where it would be not a problem to integrade 4 with vap feature because i could use same antenna as for 2 (ok i need to buy another one…
I still have no answer on what i problem for diversity hw or ros ?
how is it done when minipci is in a laptop ?
Put in another CM9 card and attach a directional pointing directly @#2 or take a LinksysWRT54G (ver 4 or lower!!!) put DD-WRT firmware on it, boost to 240mw, put it somewhere lower in you house in WDS mode, and you would propably get a good signal throgh…
