USB / +5V DC Usage at RB433AH

Hi everybody…

I have some RB433AH boards which don’t have USB connectors.
There is an USB Version called “RB433UAH”.
The PCB seems to be identical, but there are no USB connectors on the RB433AH board. But the solder contacts are there.

So I have two questions:

  1. Is it possible to “upgrade” the RB433AH by soldering an USB socket on it?
Does the board or the Firmware recognizes this correctly?
    USB sockets for example: https://www.reichelt.de/USB-Einbauverbinder/RND-205-00661/3/index.html?ACTION=3&LA=2&ARTICLE=210905&GROUPID=7530&artnr=RND+205-00661&SEARCH=%252A&trstct=pos_9

  2. If question 1 wont work, would it be possible to use the “+5V DC” contacts on the board (they are located near the MiniPCIe slots) to power a USB device?

My plan is to put a RB433AH and a RaspberryPi together into a waterproof case to be used outside.
I want to power the RB433AH through PoE, and the RB433AH should power the RaspberryPi with +5V DC.

Do you mean this would work? The RaspberryPi 2B will probably need 0.4-0.5A at 5V DC.

Thanks for any tips and hints in advance.
