Use Router as USB Ethernet Adapter

Hi,

there are Ethernet to USB adapter for devices which do not have an RJ45 Port. Allthought the USB Port on the Mikrotik routers are mainly for mobile Interent Dongle or power, i wonder if it is possible to use an MikroTik Router as ethernet adapter. Like this configuration:
[Device without RJ45] ---- USB ---- [mikrotik] — Ethernet — [Switch/Modem/Router] — Internet

I am almost certain that you cannot do this with Mikrotik/Routerboards.

But I haven’t tried it so I may be wrong.

What you could do though, is get a USB to Ethernet adapter. They are super cheap nowadays. Certainly cheaper than a routerboard

Sure, getting an USB Ethernet adapter is chep and easy. But one of the main reasons für my qeustion is, that i would like to use the mAP2n which has only 2 Ports (well, 1 usable for the client). So if the routerboard is capable to use as usb etherent adapter, i would save one Port and, if i want to connect two devices also saving an additional switch.

mAP2n and other routers won’t work as Ethernet adapter, though I as an mAP2n owner thought about this too.

It’s a router not a usb adapter. None mtk products are able to that. Just by a usb adapter
