User Auth

I have searched to find an answer for this but havent quite found what Im looking for.

Basically I have configured the DHCP server on my Mikrotik with a dynamic pool of public addresses. Basically what I want to do is to authenticate any user on the inside of my network by MAC address only.

Eg. A user plugs into my LAN and requests and IP from the server. The server denies him/her until I go in and authenticate their MAC address. Otherwise anyone can hook any old card up and take as many addresses as they want.

If someone could shed some light or point me in the right direction that would be great!!

Under DHCP-Server leases you can specify a MAC address. I have used static-only IP address assignment for each lease so I’m not sure how this will work with an IP pool.

'Hope this helps.

maybe 802.1x could be a solution, but i dont know if it would work on LAN (ethernet) too. plus a RADIUS is needed.
