I’ve tried to deploy User Manager in v6 but the amount of bugs it has makes it unusable. I’ve had a corrupt database, disappearing logs, the infamous Firefox/Chrome login bug, and I haven’t even put it in production yet… this is a new low even for MikroTik. I’m sorry guys, you know I’m a fan, but if you’re not willing to release at least usable products, do not release them at all.
Back to my original question - now that UM is out of the question, I’m looking for an alternative. There are loads of RADIUS servers but I need something which is good for a hotel, something easy to use and easy to deploy which just works out of the box. I don’t mind spending some cash as long as I don’t have to sell my house to afford it!
FreeRADIUS is great, but too complex to set up. I need a nice web GUI or application where the hotel IT admin can click a button and it automagically creates a batch of 1000 random codes, prints them out in a nice layout, and then lets him see which codes were used, when, etc.
Basically I want User Manager functionality - but one which works.
user-manager is RADIUS server implementation. SO any other RADIUS server can be used as drop in replacement, just point your RADIUS clients to use other RADIUS server.
Try freeradius as backend and as GUI you can try daloradius its nice I’m using it for my office as wireless auth eap-peap, mac auth also hotspot for guest
You may want to check: Access Manager http://accessmanager.in . It won’t generate batch of random users, but gives a lot of other features including voucher printing, email alerts, prepaid plans, session/recharge history, paypal etc.
User Manager is simply a RouterOS package. You simply need to copy the package file into /files and reboot the router. And you’re good to go. What issues did you face?
I would like to mention, I’m the one to develop it. And, if you find any issues with installation or anything related to it. You can post them on http://forum.accessmanager.in and we’ll be happy to help.
Hi andreacoppini,
If you are looking for a FreeRadius implementation with easy to manage interface via http. Then use daloradius in the virtual box environment. you can download the virtual machine appliance for this purpose.
Support for self registration will be available in next version, set to be released in couple of weeks. For ‘pay for use’ Access Manager supports PayPal, and for that all you need is a PayPal Account.
