User-manager as cetnral Radius server

Hello everybody.

If I want to use User-manager as a central Radius central, for some remote NASs (all mikrotik devices), would it be recommended to put RouterOS on a PC dedicated to that service? Or would it be better to buy a CCR?

I could, for example, use a virtualized RouterOS on a server that already run other virtualized services, for cost reduction.
I thought about using FreeRadius, with daloRADIUS frontend. I didn’t really put it to work, since after I installed and configured their basics, I noticed that it’s configuration is a little more complex to understand. It is not as intuitive as User-manager web-interface. If it was only me who would be using it, and I didn’t needed to teach anyone else, it wouldn’t be a problem, but the case is that I will have to teach other people to manage it, and if it is not intuitive, they can end up scrambling everything out.

What are your thoughts?

I am planning to run mine on a 1100ahx2 to serve up to about 50 remote sites.

I have PPTP tunnels running from the remote sites to my Hotspot Concentrator, and my trials so far have proven very reliable.
