USER MANAGER FOR 5000 Users - Need Help

Dear Team,

-We are planning to setup a campus wide wifi network completely based on MTKs indoors and outdoors.
-All these would be running with RADIUS(User Manager) for wireless authentication and mobility support.
-UM will be installed on a Xeon Quad core server With 1 TB HDD.

A small pilot project has been implemented and tested for 500 concurrent users and working fine with 1 bug that sometimes there are multiple sessions for 1 single users which does not end even after 24 hours.

NOW
we want to implement the same architecture for 5000 concurrent users with multimedia rich applications and for BYOD scenario.

Quest:

  1. Can Usermanager handle 5000 concurrent users?
  2. Can we add more than 250 APs to authenticate wireless users with UM?
  3. Can we get comparable performances with Rukus controller901-3050-IN00 or Aruba 3600 controller?

Please suggest…

Regarding Radius Server, I will not recommend to use USER MANAGER. userman is good but not for this amount of users and it have few bugs too.

Go with some 3rd party radius server like DMASOFTLAB Radius Manager.

easy to use radius server and worth its money, we also bulit a billing and management solution based on microsoft navision based on this radius

We just want to authenticate registered users to connect to wireless network.

Just a replacement of setting up access list on each AP,

No accounting, no billing, just wireless authentication!

Can User Manager handle 5000 concurrent sessions.
