Having a weird situation that just started happening… when the last user logs out of routeros (ssh or winbox). All users disappear from the system and admin returns to a blank password. I log back in and add the users but when I log out they all disappear again. Im running routeros 5.26 (due to issues with intel drivers on an x86 box). This causes a security issue of course and means I have to leave a connection on so the password doesnt default out. Anyone seen anything like this or have any ideas?
You aren’t using the SafeMode option in Winbox are you? I don’t know what the equivalent is in SSH. I imagine you would have noticed if you were doing that but the behaviour seems about right…
Maybe a newer version of Winbox with the old RouterOS version and there’s a bug with the SafeMode option always being on? Do you have an older version of Winbox you could try?
Does it happen with settings other than user accounts? Maybe add a DNS entry and see if it sticks?
It looks like you’re using x86. Virtualized? Does the VM have write permission to the disk?
Contact Mikrotik support with a supout.rif, though I don’t know that they support that version any more… They do have it available for download on their website so maybe… http://www.mikrotik.com/support.html
Nope, only the user accounts are affected. Everything else stays the same
it is an x86 but it’s not virtualized. Runs directly on the hardware. Also it’s been running fine for about 6 monthe
Contacted support. Known issue they’ve seen and was repaired on v6.0… which we cant use due to driver issues for the network card. Support also suggested reinstall via netinstall. Guess that’s my next option and have scheduled an outage/mainteenie window in 2 weeks from now
same issue with me
I purchased a new Intel i9 14th-generation CPU with a Gigabyte Z790 motherboard. On this system, I installed Mikrotik RouterOS version 7.10.2, and it worked smoothly for about 10 days. After that, one day all user with credentials were automatically removed, and the system reverted to default user settings (admin user with blank password).
On the advice of our technical advisor, I upgraded to a newer MikroTik version. I then installed RouterOS 7.20.5 on a new licensed SSD. However, after another 10 days, the same issue occurred again — all credentials were lost, and the user reset to default.
Please advise on a permanent solution to resolve this issue.
I faced this two times and it figured out that was faulty SSDs - after reinstallation on new ones issue were fixed, also support said that it is 99% disk related if configuration/users were disappearing on x86
