Using 4 Wlan on RB 532

I am thinking of using 4 wlan on RB532 (plus RB502 daughter board), but here’s some issues that i am worried about :

  1. Could the CPU on RB532 support so many wlan altogether? I have tried using RB532 with 2 wlan and put on a VPN tunnel on it to serve about 1 MB traffic on that tunnel (i am using EoIP tunneling), but the CPU load on it is really high, it’s about 20-35% CPU load. If i use 4 wlan on RB 532 (no VPN) can the CPU serve the client? I am planning to put 1 MB traffic to this RB532.
  2. Do i need 18v power or 48v power?

Thank you all.

I have RB532 with 4 CM9 atheros miniPCI cards through daugterboard, working without problem. Two cards are in ap-bridge mode and two cards are in station mode. Traffic load is about 2mbit/s and cpu usage ~50% sometimes reaching 100%, but I do not worry about that
I can’t remember is it 18V or 48V unfortunatelly.

Cheers mate

Based on my calculation, 4 CM9s consumes less than 6 W. RB532 consumes 3 W maximum without extension cards. Assume the daughter board consumes little power (I don’t know the exact number. Anyone?) A standard 12V, 1000mA power adapter is fine.

However, if you use 4 SR2s, then the total power could be more than 20 W. You need either POE or more powerful power adapter.

RouterBOARD 500 should work fine with 4 65 mW wireless cards, but don’t use more than 2 SR (High power wireless cards) cards in RB500.
