Using Non RouterOS vpn behind a routeros router

A: Totally new to routers so even obvious stuff is new to me. This is the first nonhome-dsl router I’ve programmed.
B: That said, I’m using a workstation behind my new mikrotik router with a Nat configured, when I initiate a workstation level (in this case, XP to a Microsoft server) VPN tunnel I’m unable to communicate with resources on the remote network. Any ideas? It works when the Mikrotik router is taken out of the loop.
C: Other things work fine. I’m using the router now to write this.

I have not done anything at all extra (like firewall rules to limit traffic / protect my network).

Thanks

i also have a similar problem.
I have had mikrotik router as a hotspot for some time. but recently one of my clients came to me asking why he was unable to connect to his VPN server at work??
I have hotspot configured, and my client has an internal IP address.
I have not seen the error myself, but he tells me his server won’t respond when trying to initliase a connection.

any idea’s?

Interesting. Well, in my case I am not using wireless and I can connect via VPN. It just won’t work / I can not connect to remote computers (with VNC) or shares after the connection is established / I’ve logged in.

Since I’m just testing this router, as soon as I pull it out of the chain and use another type, I can do these things again.

What version of RouterOS are you running? Is connection tracking enabled in the firewall? Is the PPTP helper enabled under the service ports in the IP firewall?

I’ll check and get back. Thanks.

Connection tracking is enabled, pptp is enabled but has no port assigned. and my client is connected through a hotspot wired connection.

3.25, yes connection tracking, yes to PPTP but no port specified.

Also, while I need / want NAT, I don’t need a firewall. If there is command (or firewall rule suggestions) to just open it up while keeping NAT… I’d be interested.

Bump

So, can anyone tell me how to set up a nat without a firewall and/or how to open the firewall all up?

Don’t need script level detail, just generic commands.

Thanks
