Using PoE from RB4011 to power a cAP ac at Gigabit

I’m going to be purchasing a cAP ac to add a second WiFi access point in my home. I’d like to use PoE, but I’ve seen that passive PoE only supports 100mbps. Is that the case?

I also saw that a Gigabit injector comes with cAP ac, but can that be used on the PoE port (port 10 on the RB4011), or would the two power sources conflict?

Lastly there is a second Ethernet output on the cAP ac, which I wanted to run to a computer. Would that output which is labelled PoE out on the cAP ac also carry a PoE charge? I don’t want to fry the ethernet port on my computer with PoE. Is there a way to make the cAP ac only take a PoE charge but not send the PoE charge?

Nope, passive PoE injector RBGPOE supports gigabit speeds.

If you use RB4011’s PoE out (ether10 only), then you don’t need any PoE injector, RB4011 will provide power and cAP ac will gladly accept it.

First, PoE out is configurable, you can disable it and unit won’t push any power out. But even if it did, it’s a slim chance that it would damage PC’s ethernet port. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Thank you so much for your prompt response. I now know what to do. I’ll make sure to further educate myself on RouterBOARD software, and hopefully give back to this community as well. Have a great day/night.
