Using RB5009 as capsman controller

Please can someone assist me?

I have an RB5009. I am looking to configure CAPsMAN in order to connect a hAPax2. I have installed WiFi Wave2 package but could use some assistance in configuring this. I am extremely new to Mikrotik so please go easy on me.

I am running ROS v7.11. If I try to add a new interface I get “Master unknown”.

Your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

1 single AX2 ?
Why use capsman then ? It’s done faster to just configure the AX2 on its own.

Surely you already checked out this page:
https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/display/ROS/WifiWave2#WifiWave2-WifiWave2CAPsMAN

Capsman doubles the size of a clean config and adds many room for errors and should be avoided for new users.
Later on, if you want to try it out, do so separately from your working network, to see if it really adds any value.

So for now it would be one AX2 but I have a campus that I would like to place these units throughout.

It is never advisable to ask one thing at a time, especially if you are inexperienced.
Clearly state what you start with and what you want to achieve in the end.

Thanks. I have already seen the link.

Apologies,
I have installed the Wifiwave2 packages on the RB5009. I do not see capsman on the left pane as it would appear in other routers. I do see it under “Remote CAP - Wireless tables”. There is CAPsMAN there. Would this be where I configure this? Also I am unable to create a Wifiwave2 interface

Correct, all capsman configuration is done under the wifiwave2 tree (unlike legacy wifi devices were a separate capsman menu was present).

You don’t create wifiwave2 interfaces on capsman controller. They will come “automagically”.
So you saw the link but obviously did not grasp what is explained there.
(steps are explained as terminal commands but it is conceptually the same when using Winbox)

I do agree however the general explanation of the old capsman was better (more explained in detail).
You can still use it to get the idea of what capsman as a concept does.
https://help.mikrotik.com/docs/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=1409149
(Attention: this is for OLD capsman so the config steps explained there, do not apply to wifiwave2. Only use as background material)

Short version:
1- activate controller
2- setup configuration (multiple can be made)
3- activate caps mode on access point (at least 7.9 needed if you want to go through CAPS RESET, otherwise manual activation, but best to move to latest 7.11 for various wifi fixes)
4- radio will appear in capsman controller / Remote CAP
5- assign config to radio MAC using configuration in provisioning tab
6- from radio or Remote Cap, provision radio
7- interfaces will appear in capsman controller

This is the kind of assistance I was hoping to receive. Thank you so much
