Using RB5009 as capsman controller

Hi sudonimm01,

i got a RB5009 with 2x hapAX²

And i cannot get it worl with a Manager-Service (Capsman) to controll the 2 APs.
I want to get it worlk because of the FT (Fast Transition).

Would you plaese be so kind and share you conf to me ?

I read in some treads, that its no good Idea to run the manager alone on a no-Wifi routerboard.

I evenj tried to put the Manager to one of the AX²-APs …
I never had such problems with hardware as like with this combination and this drives me crazy.
Because I like the RB5009 i thought of use mikrotik for some project. I will defnetly not actualy…

Even i tried to put the APs in Standalone mode - but someting curios is going on - my end-device dont switch between the APs.
I dont kn0w how this can be - never seen this befor like that. If a signal hast more strength the end-device is the activ part and switchs to the “better” IP.
I cannot understand why it does not. HAve to say i stripped all services (firewall, stp , ft , etc) even if the haps are naket
Its a mess because i put them on two stocklworks. So if you go down the stair , it hangs on the upper AP with ~10mbit rx/tx .
both AP show that tey are blowing the signal out with -25dbm… +

I think one of them is brocke. ( the one downstairs) …
Today , just for fun i orderd a 3rd one… If the issues proceed , → everything back to seller.

A support ticket was anserwed with : our product work. we offer no support.
Link to supporter which i can pay - i wrote after x-mas to 2 of them - didnt get an answer.
and on discord - many pros - less real help.

Now i am trying to get it wort since a month and dont wont spend lifetime for a shit.
I searched the web sind i got the AXs .- but it seems that this config is unusual - i get mad.

thx
Alex

You may want to start providing following info:

  • network diagram (can be on paper) - how is everything connected together
  • export of config of RB5009 and hAP AX2 device (1 is enough if the others are working as CAP as well)
    — terminal
    — export file=anynameyouwish
    — move file to PC
    — remove serial and other sensitive info
    — post edited file back here between [__code] quotes for easier readability

As for some of your questions:

I read in some treads, that its no good Idea to run the manager alone on a no-Wifi routerboard.

Says who ? There is absolutely NO problem doing that.

Even i tried to put the APs in Standalone mode - but someting curios is going on - my end-device dont switch between the APs.

Not sure what you mean by this. But most likely a config issue. Hence why I asked to see your config.
Most likely you left those devices in basic setup which means they are configured to have WAN access on ether1 (with a nice firewall to block everything coming in from ether1) and then wifi on 2 channels. But they will not “work together” when configured like that (see firewall). If you use RB5009 as capsman controller, those AX2 devices simply need to be put in CAPS mode. Practically no config, just looking for a controller to tell them what they need to do.

I think you got the term “support” a bit wrong. They are not there to help you fix basic config problems.
The fact the other sources you reached out for did not respond, says already something about them.
