RB433 has 3 ethernet ports. One of them is PoE port. Two other are managed thruu a switch I think.
Is it possible to use those 2 adjacent ethernets as seperate ethernets with different IPs on different zones like a two different ethernet controllers?
Is it possible to change the behaviour of those two ethernets to function as a switch thru software?
My aim is to learn can I use those two ethernet in some bypass function. Router will function as bridge in normal. If something happens to os and bridge does not work, it will change the baheviour of those two ethernets into a switch.
Your 433 is actually a router by default, so it is definitely possible to place different subnets on each interface.
It is a inefficient to use the 433 as a “switch”. To do so, you would have to use the bridge functionality.
There are some models that have ethernet bypass capability. This means that there is basically a physical hub between two ports, so even upon loss of power, a physical link between the two ports should be maintained. You can do a route based on reach-ability so if you lose one interface or the other, it will fail over automatically. If you lose your OS, the only hope for you is some sort of physical ethernet bypass, however.
