Hi everyone, yesterday I got my first Mikrotik routerboard, quite pleased with the product!
I got the RB3011 for the price and features I couldn’t find anything better.
However my ISP won’t provide me with a gigabit fiber-optic modem, issue being I’m not getting the most out of the WAN due to protocol overhead.
The modem has extra ports, it is a Huawei HG850a, so I could In theory do this however I’ve yet to access the admin menu to see how it is setup, if it has DHCP or not, if it is acting as a switch or a router, etc.
My question is how do you typically setup two wan ports?. If the interface is 100/100 and the provided ISP connection is 100/100 you won’t receive full speed due to overhead, maybe 94 to 97mbps would be the maximum which is what I’m seeing.
Is my reasoning sane?, If I could use two ports maybe I could squeeze the extra missing speed or not because the initial link has the same speed.
On the other hand perhaps that’s not the case?
The initial.setup on the routerboard was surprisingly simple, I’m just starting out on proper networking so please be gentle ![]()
Thanks!
