Yes, if i knew that 16 MB devices are crap, i would not buy AC2.
Normally, when you upgrade with zerotier, you don’t have space even for wireless package, so the upgrade fails and you are left on 12.1.
You can only have 13 with zerotier, if you remove all configuration, upgrade, install wireless (no new wifi-qcom-ac), and then install zerotier. And you have to know how to upload it correctly (not to flash, but to RAM). But you will end up with 0% free space. So, you risk to lock up your device, if put lots of config on it, or if it generates over 100-200 kilobytes of files.
I am sure that we will never see the room for extra packages on 16MB devices. Their obsolescence was programmed, and has arrived. This is called “efficient management based on effective marketing”.
Because zerotier is very important for me, i had to downgrade to 12.1, and will never upgrade until i would never need zerotier anymore.
Many enthusiasts will now have to spend more money on their expensive toys.
Looks like 7.13 breaks E3372h-153 somehow, after downgrade ROS to 7.12 I can’t use HiLink API for sms and I can’t send sms from modem either. I tried to reflash, upgrade modem and reset to factory, still have an issue with sms. May be something happened with sim card, but can only check in the next year (
Regarding 16MB flash devices, to have possibility in future to install any new ROS versions and any supported packages for device architecture maybe MT needs to consider feature to extend system partition with external drive or even possibility to completely use external drive partition as system root. Some 16MB devices have enough other resources (cpu/ram) that serves user’s purpose. Why forcing to buy new device just for more system storage? (rhetorical question).
Also 7.12.x can be set as long term release due to changes in 7.13, because some cannot upgrade to that version with some packages combinations due device storage limitation. In this case 7.12 must receive patches for major/security issues.
I tested this version on my CCR 1016 where MPLS and VPLS {LDP} is running. After 3 to 5 minutes router reboots and it keeps repating over and over. On version 7.12.1 everything is ok. Has anyone same experience? No error in log.
small note outside the version. . . hap ax2 if it had at least USB2 (better USB3.X) it would be an ideal small device and I think its sales would increase several times. . .
This way we have ac2 with USB but little storage space and limited RAM, and ax2 without USB but with lots of RAM and enough storage space.
I don’t know what led MKT to such a failed solution.
(And putting PoeIn and PoeOut on one port, I didn’t understand that either.)
Has been suggested before, e.g. when the hAP ac2 could not run wifiwave2 due to space restrictions, but that model has USB.
No meaningful reaction, so I presume they “just don’t want to do that” for whatever reason.
I have same behavior with CCR1036-8G-2S+,CCR1009-7G-1C-1S+ and CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS.
Getting Log messages (CLI):
rebooted without proper shutdown by watchdog timer
or
router was rebooted without proper shutdown, probably kernel failure
After returning to 7.12.1 everything seams to be stable
We experience that too!
An RB4011 crashed after a few minutes or half an hour, it seems it depends on the amount of traffic.
A CCR2216 crashed after a few hours.
