I am going to be in Valencia, Spain for a month next week from New Zealand. I am seeing if there is anyone in Valancia that works with MikroTik, that wuld like to catchup for a quite drink if time permits.
Is there an MikroTik being used at the Americias Cup over the next year?
I have been asked to help with the GPS installations on the racing boats.
Highly looking forward to seeing the other side of the world.
Unless there is any legal requirements you would do well in avoiding the 2.4GHz band! It’s full of home router equipment, microwaves, DECT phones, Bluetooth etc… it just isn’t usable anymore, well unless you are in a completely virgin area
Instead you should take a look at 5.7GHz, lot less noice from other types of gear apart from wifi. The problem with most gear that are using the 2.4GHz band is that they are not honoring the protocols that are supposed to minimize interference… vor example Bluetooth uses lots of very narrow bands and if they get interferences they do a multi-send on lots of their channels to find a new clear channel… completely destroying the air for wifi-gear
Depending on your specs (speed etc) you might want to take a look at the integrated router/antenna from MT, just have them swap out the regular card for a SR5 (to get better rx-sensitivity).
That way you wouldn’t have any losses from long cable-runs, connectors, bulkhead adapters etc! Those will quickly become a problem on longer distances. 25meters of LMR400 (seems to be the favorite cable here) will cost you almost 9dB… add a few connectors and bulkhead adaptors to get out from you router box and you have quickly eaten up all the extra gain won in using solid dishes!
Also I am fairly sure that MT can ship directly to the place you are staying in Valencia.
I’m living in Castellon, that it’s 60 km from Valencia and I’m working with MT for 2 years, I have been in the last MUM in Prague and I’m working for an important WISP.
It could be nice to meet you and share our experience in MT.
