These MikroTik devices look really quite interesting.
Highly directional, wireless ac and quite compact.
When a device like a SXT 5 AC is shown as hitting 540Mbps presumably that’s the link speed using an 80MHz channel width with ideal conditions?
I’d halve that number to get the actual data rate i.e. 270Mbps / 33MB per second - correct?
Now take the newly released LHG HP5 or the SXT Lite5 ac for example.
These are fitted with 10/100 Ethernet ports despite being wireless ac devices.
This would essentially handicap them to 100Mbps regardless of the obtained link speed, wouldn’t it?
I know devices like this are mainly intended for providers to send WiFi links over long distances or for people in rural areas to set up point to point links i.e. two devices: AP → Station.
But is there any reason a single device couldn’t be configured to act as a highly directional wireless adapter over a short distance i.e. < 50 meters.
It looks like they can bridge standard 802.11ac signals unlike the current Ubiquiti ac devices which only see AIRMAX signals.
Tx Power would be turned down to the legal limit or even lower until a signal of -50 or better was obtained.
Wired in to my RT-N66U setup as a repeater I can already obtain the following:
2.4GHz
RSSI: -55 dBm
Link Rate: ~72-144Mbps
Speed Test: 50-80Mbps / 10Mbps
5GHz
RSSI: -80 dBm
Link Rate: 162Mbps
Speed Test: 50Mbps / 10Mbps
I’d like to hit 200Mb+ on the 5GHz band outputting that into the WAN port on my N66U (to broadcast locally) - with a Mikrotik device is that feasible?

Would I end up with double-NAT or any other undesirable effect?
Is this a crazy use for such a device?
I’d normally get a cheap consumer router and throw DD-WRT on there; set it up as a Client/Client Bridge/Repeater/etc
But for the price I’m not sure if I could get a 5GHz wireless ac router + third party antenna and have it work as well - they’re normally designed to throw out an omni directional signal.
I’ve noticed that the devices seem to have 2 pin Euro power plugs by default - are there UK plugs available (BS 1363) ?
