You need a VDSL/ADSL modem in front of the router.

It certainly is not the future, but it is in heavy use in many parts of the world. Not obsolete at all in the EU!
for my part: I had to go back half a year ago from coax to dsl at home, cause fiber is not available and cable is too overcrowded
