Very long ping times

Hi
Got a new HEX. Connected to the router is a ubiquti AP. Previous setup had a DD-WRT router instead. Worked fine for years.

Now I have very long and/or irregular ping times. No packet loss

ping -t 192.168.1.1 -l 4096

…..
Minimum = 1ms, Maximum = 393ms, Average = 81ms

same results with 2048 bytes
ping -t 192.168.1.1
Minimum = 0ms, Maximum = 1ms, Average = 0ms

If I ping the accespoint with 4096 bytes I’m getting great results with average pings of 1ms.
The connection is not stable and Skype audio calls is very bad from time to time to the point of disconection. The pings seem to point to the router.
I have tried long term and stable. No special settings more or less plugged everything in and set it up for DHCP. Tried new cables but nothing works.

Tried to reset router. Default settings. Connected via cable. Same situation. Faulty hardware?

Any suggestions where to start?

Which device has this IP 192.168.1.1, the router or the wireless AP?
Does your PC have also a cable connection to the local network?
It seems all or some of the ping packets are going over the wireless route.
Check your routings on all devices, incl. your PC.

Thanks for the reply!
The router had 192.168.1.1 but after the initial test I did go back to basics, one computer over cable. No internet connection (though I tried with wan connected also)

Even tried with computer that has only ethernet.. Full reset of router, shutdown and reboots of all devices between tests. No dice.
The example above is when I changed local lan net, default is 192.168.88.1 which is what I used for most test (all other values default)

The only route is to the router and back. Did traceroutes when connected to the internet and nothing funky.

Thanks
Out of town, I’ll do that as soon as I’m back. Will post result here.
