Hi,
I have a very, very specific way that i would like mikrotik hardware and RouterOS function.
My scenario is as follows:
When the end user of a wired ethernet port brings the link up (by plugging in a cable attached to a running computer/device or by turning on a computer already connected to the ethernet port), RouterOS queries a radius server/user manager to receive a yes/no authorization… then depending on the response either brings up the port in a generally internet connected state (ideally, I’d like that state to consist of a 2 usable IP address subnet with the router on one IP address and DHCP server (either relayed or running on the local mikrotik hardware) handing out the other IP address to the customer end device). In the event of a non-authorized response, I would like the mikrotik to configure the port and user end device to a captive portal (one that includes it’s own isolated DNS service… I’ll take care of that part). In the event of the link state being lost after the above authentication / configuration happens, the configuration state of the port would be torn down (including IP address assignment and routing).
Really, really simple stuff that I can easily get done on more open software and commodity hardware (hardware that doesn’t have the port density of the mikrotik equipment).
Anyone have a similar configuration working? I can’t see how to do this with mikrotik hardware and RouterOS, but I’d be willing to pay have it implemented properly.
