I am looking at deploying MT RouterOS for CPE (Using RouterBoard 100 series) as well as for an Access Router and Wireless Backhaul to our PoP. Each CPE will VPN into the AR which will then VPN to the PoP. This is a huge amount of VPNs for one box to handle and I am worried about CPU load.
Initially it will need to be able to handle about 200 home and small business users and potentially double that within 6 months. I am wondering what the best hardware platform to use for the AR/Backhaul box. Low power consumption is an important factor as at least one of the boxes will have to deployed outdoors.
I assume that RouterOS will boot on these CPUs (Linux and BSD runs fine although Xen has some issues apparently) but will it support the hardware encryption acceleration (AES in particular) which I understand is implemented via a dynamically loadable kernel module?
