Hello, i have a problem with a Viasat Sattelite Modem.
Even though i receive an IP from the Modem with my laptop, i can not receive an IP with my DHCP Client on mi Mkrotik Router!
Is there any suggestion?
Take note that there is no DHCP Server, it is a modem an it has only one ip to give to a client
I have one site with a Viasat backup, and recall the modem being kinda dumb about things.
So switching between PC and Mikrotik may not be the best test, as it likely locks the PC’s MAC address to the public IP. e.g. I think DHCP assignment from Viasat only runs once.
If you connected modem to the Mikrotik & reboot the modem, does that get you an address? It does take some time for the satellite to acquire. Also there may be some private address assigned at some point during boot up, but then gets a public IP with more time.
No unfortunately it doesn’t. I waited about 3 min more or less.
I temporarily solved the problem with dlink router which acquired the public ip and I used it’s dhcp to Mikrotik, but as I said it is a temp solution and also I can not connect to the VPN because of the NAT behind the router.
