I would like to graph the number of pppoe users w/ mrtg.
OID would solve this problem I think ..
go to interfaces > print OID
I prefer to read the manual of MRTG on Mikrotik

I wish there were a oid for number of interfaces in use. I am really after the number in use rather than info about them. Even the oid indexes do not stay in order.
Alas they do not believe in SNMP.
Seriously though, snmp in routeros has an enormous (unparalleled?) potential for improvement.
Have you walked the tree to see that there is no such OID?
I guess you could walk a parent oid and count the retrieved instances.
Seems like a waste, but sometimes one has to make things “good enough”
