There is a way to have down links show up as a color on a map but you have to sacrifice the link utilization color to do it. One easy method would be to just add [Interface.OperStatus] to the label and be done with it. If the link labels are turned off that won’t work. Having the top map labels turned off gives a very clean look and if the link was a gray color if was down would be really nice.
Pick a map to test on, click the middle settings button at the top, click Appearance, Expand the Link settings, click the “link” color and set it to the desired Down color, pick or leave default other colors for link label and full and full label. We are going to set the speed of the links on this map to 1 so the link will always be colored with the link full color if it is up.
Now visit every link on this map and set the speed to 1, down links will show up as the link color and up links will show up as link full color. It is not the best solution but it does work and it takes less work than a manually configured probe that sends a notification.
