I apologise in advance for being new to the way RouterOS treats VLANs, I previously only have had limited experience with Linksys and ProCurve VLAN-configs. Not a networking guy, you see ![]()
I consider myself pretty technical, but I was totally overwhelmed by the possibilities and complexity (to me at least) in RouterOS. And humbled. And stuck. And hope I don’t have to give up and return the boxes I’ve bought… ![]()
So, here’s my setup:
My ISP delivers multicast TV signals on VLAN ID 101 and internet on VLAN ID 102. However, the default router that comes with the service is a bit unstable, and causes frequent disconnects. In addition, I have only one network outlet in each room I have hooked up, and up until now I’ve made do with some simple managed Linksys switches to seperate VLAN traffic.
Now one of these switches has died and I’ve bought a RB951-2HnD (actually two, but more about that later) and two RB260s to try and do a complete tech refresh in the house.
What I want to do:
Set ether1 on my 951 as gateway (I have cloned the MAC address from the original router, and have a fixed IP from my ISP).
Use the 951 as Wireless AP and VLAN switch, trunking both 101 and 102 (ether5) so that I can have separate VLAN ports on my two 260s in the TV rooms, where I also need to connect stuff to VLAN 102.
Configure the 260s with management (ether1), VLAN 101 (ether2), VLAN 102 (ether3 and ether4) and trunk (ether5)
Configure two ports on the 951 on separate VLANs (ether3 and ether4).
Use ether2 as a management port.
I also want to be able to access LAN only services (Streaming TV) in our holiday home, where I can’t get normal TV signals. We have a DSL line installed there. I figure a VPN tunnel between the two 951s should take care of this.
I hope the attached diagram I’ve made should provide more info on what I’m trying to do.
Any help will be greatly appreciated!
