vlan doesn't work for Mikrotik installed on Vmware

Hi,

I’m facing some concern to get vlan working with my Mikrotik installed on Vmware workstation (ver 7.0.1). The same setup i made on a desktop is working but on Vmware it can’t work. I saw that on desktop vlan interfaces do have mtu at 1500 and L2MTU at 1596 while on Vmware there is only mtu at 1500 while l2mtu is empty.
Can someone assist to fix the issue i have?
My desire is to use my system on Vmware.

Regards

Hugues

The VMWare drivers doesn’t support VLANs.

So there is no way to run Mikrotik vlan over Vmware at all?

you can create multiple vlan into your host and bridge them to a virtual interface of wmware. I’ve a working server like that. But vmware suffers on high bandwidth. On my server i can reach max 30mbit before topping the cpu and losing packets.

Another things to keep in mind is the Windows as the host machine will not pass VLANs from a virtual machine. I believe Linux works fine however.

There are various types of network adapters on VMware ESXi 4.0
and there is high performance one. not sure about its name, have you tried that?

The problem is you can’t install vmware network tools into mikrotik. They provide the necessary network acceleration.
