I have an RB951G-2HND running OS 6.45.2. I am having an issue with a VPN I would like to set up. I tried this about a year ago, and ended up getting busy and shelved the project, but I would like to get it going.
Here is the setup:
Hardware
- RB951 as my main router at my home. I am using the internal wifi for my house.
- Samsung Note 8
- Samsung Tab-A tablet
- Samsung Galaxy S7
Software
- Currently I have deleted all of the VPN settings in the router. I could not remember exactly where I was, and I figured it would be better to start over at a clean slate then try to re-engineer what I had done.
- Would like to set the “Always On” VPN setting in the Samsung devices to always be on, even at home.
- Original VPN settings were an L2TP/IPSec PSK, but I am open to any protocol (hence the reason to just start with a clean slate).
Here were my issues during my first attempt:
At home:
- With the “Always On” VPN turned off in the devices, the devices functioned as needed, all is good.
- With the “Always On” VPN turned ON in the devices, the devices could not get out of the network to the internet.
Away from home:
- Worked as it should. No issues
The Tab-A belongs to my son. I don’t want him to have to remember to turn on the VPN, or me have to turn on the VPN before he leaves the house. I would like to just leave the VPN on all the time.
