Hi guys,
I had posted some request to support vPro when it was out couple of months ago, and so far there is no news about it from Mikrotik and no one even talk about it.
But basically if you don’t what vPro is, its a remote control management
technology regardless of state of your OS or hardware (except if it is hard
power off) means no power supply.
but basically what it means if Mikrotik support it?
if Mikrotik RouterOS support it you can do:
-
Reinstall a corrupted and none working Mikrotik RouterOS from CD-rom mounted on your local pc to the remote x86 vpro box without going there and plugging our IDE - CD-ROM…
-
You can read what was the last error message on your screen if your RouterOS crashes
-
You can disable all Ethernet but still communicate to your board using Serial-over-LAN technology. it means if you accidentally disabled all your Ethernet and wireless you can bring it back (but of course it is only the case that you have some sort of backup communication to your box) like loop wireless network and etcetera
-
You can report local services such as telnet from 2323 to 23 in hardware layer (not software) and get connected to your remote box.
Since Intel has made AMT Development Tool Kit available as Open source it is going to be pretty easy to implement it by Mikrotik, except if they don’t want it.
Please do vote here if you are interested in this option.
I also suggest to find a way that RouterBoard can support this chipset or technology by add-on board or even built-in.
Thanks
