Is it still unsupported to run VRRP on a VLAN interface?
I have two RB1000’s each with 4 VLAN interfaces defined on ether2. I’d like to be able to have a VRRP’d gateway address for each of these VLAN subnets so that the various client servers can have a single default gateway for their subnet.
I’ve noticed some people stating that they’ve gotten this to work, but the documentation is quite specific that this is not supported. The doco doesn’t seem to have been updated for some time tho (feb 6 2008 for the VRRP page).
Thanks for the link. Whilst the page does not say that you cannot use VLAN interfaces, it does not say that it is now allowed. All the examples given only use physical interfaces. Given that VLAN support is a change to the published supported configuration, shouldn’t it be explicitly mentioned on the page?
Additionally, the disclaimer on the wiki home page “This is not the MikroTik RouterOS documentation, use this resource only together with the RouterOS Documentation” would seem to indicate that the doco takes precedence and the doco says you cannot do it.
I can confirm that VRRP on VLANs does work under 3.x at least starting with 3.13. (Can’t say about earlier.) We’re running it on 6 VLANs with OSPF running between the two cores and the rest of our network. Fail-over takes about 10 seconds.
