WAN keeps dropping out 7.15.2

Hi Mikrotik gurus
i have a strange problem with the 7.15 stable and the betas out at moment

I keep getting drop outs from the wan lets say I have IP address of 23.24.25.237 my internet runs fine but he wifi doesn’t seem to refresh when opening up pages on facebook or web browsers I do a speed test and yes it is very slow??
i release the IP in the winbox internet settings section it changes to say 23.24.26.432 then my internet goes good again for a few hrs then same thing happens
I have been talking with my internet provider and they say it is my router dropping and getting a new IP but I cant see it until I release the IP

from my ISP
Hi Peter,

I’ve taken a look into this issue and noticed that there is a high number of dropouts on your internet connection that overlap, so even though you might not see that yu’re offline, the router keeps trying to re-establish the internet connection by giving you a new IP address each time.
It looks like these dropouts and buffering are originating at your router, so I’d recommend doing a factory reset to remove any errors in the router’s software, and if it doesn’t automatically reconnect then you may have to set it up from scratch

Now I’m running 7.14.3 and it is working great so far no drop outs and I still have the same IP from a couple days ago (before it would of changed 5 times)

so how can I test for this please to see if it is the router or a bug in the os or indeed them??

No it doesn’t, the IP address you invented above is not possible. When you’re “inventing” description of your problem, stick to the facts as much as possible (if your WAN IP address is dynamic, you could write actual one as well).

You may want to post your config (do textual export) for review, if it works in some ROS version and not the other one it doesn’t mean that config is flawless (but the probability of it being buggy is not high either).

With all due respect, it looks to me like some form of yak shaving:

  1. your setup works just fine on 7.14.3
  2. your setup has issues on 7.15.2

Since it works just fine on 7.14.3, you don’t really need to run 7.15.2 (in the sense that you are not using any of the new features introduced - possibly together with a number of bugs - in 7.15.2).

Notwithstanding the label of “stable”, 7.15.2 is relatively recent and it is likely to have a number of small or large quirks/wrinkles that still need to be ironed out.

If you don’t really need the newer version, stay for the moment with the older one.

@mkx, I am probably more paranoid than you, so I can see two drawbacks in posting one’s dynamic public IP - first, you reveal the country (which doesn’t matter where you or me live but may be a concern elsewhere), and second, you reveal the subnet where a device of a known type and software release listens on a public address, which can be an issue anywhere in the world.

It seems you’re on extreme end of Gaussian distribution

My theory is that difference in outlook is because Sindy is sober…

well guys i can confirm that the 7.14.3 has all but fixed the wan dropouts I was having on the hapax3
after I worked out how to do it properly lol but
yes all seems to be good now wifi works as intended on both 2.4 and 5g and no dropouts and wan trying to ask the ISP for a new IP address every 1hr or so

i just had a email from my isp telling me that the internet drop outs have significantly reduced after reverting back to the 7.14.3 routeros and firmware so lesson learnt latest isn’t always the best
