WAN type PPPoE on router

I have a RB450G configured an running a PPPoE server on one port. I can connect to the internet with my laptop configured a PPPoE client without problems. I now want to connect another router to that port. I therfore configured the second router’s WAN as PPPoE, putting in the same username and password that I had on my laptop. The routers’s WAN does not connect. I found out that if I used a router with certain versions of DD-WRT on it and configuring the WAN as PPPoE and enabling RP(which I assume to be Reverse Polarity), the WAN connect. Do you know of any other router that has this RP feature to be able to use the WAN as PPPoE?

Let me put the question another way. Which router can I use to connect its WAN port to a port on a Mikrotik router running PPPoE server? Pls advise.

There are a few, I run a pppoe network and on the client end we have used a mixture of routers

RB750
RB951
ZyXEL NBG 416n
TP Link 1043nd
TP Link 841n

Most cable routers are pppoe compatible

This also has been tested directly onto a 2011, 493g and 1100ahx2 all running pppoe server on Ports

Hope this helps

Thank you for the response. I’ll try the TP Link 841N. I was begining to wonder if no one else had been using a PPPoE server in this configuration.

What is the difference with most other routers that you can set the WAN as PPPoE client but does not seem to work with the Mikrotik PPPoE server?

can you provide the config for the pppoe server so that we can check

Just getting back to this one. I tried a TP Link, TL-WR841ND, but I still can not get the WAN to connect a PPPoE as with the DD-WRT router, as mentioned before. Pls advise. TIA

Try uploading the config for your PPPoE server - output from log entries would be useful too.

The TP Link now connects to the Mikrotik RB450G. I enabled logging for PPP on the RB450G and saw that the cause was “bad username or password”. I guess those late night configurations was the cause. Once I corrected that issue, the routers connected. I will try other routers to see if I made similar mistakes, since I could not get them to connect. At lease I know that I can use the TP-Link brand for this purpose. Thaks for your input.
