I have 200ft between 2 steel buildings. It looks like the WAP60G should work between the 2.
If I mount them on the side of the building do I need to be concerned about the metal building? Would using a Quick Mount be sufficient to mitigate problems from the metal?
Do these need to be perfectly aligned (it looks like the 60G dish does but I didn’t see anything about the WAP60G) or are they omni antennas?. The 2 buildings are parallel but where we are mounting the bridges will be offset by about 20 ft. So alignment might be off by 5-10 degrees maybe
We get down to about -40 C with alot of snow. I see some concerns on the forums about snow and ice, but antonsb said “There should be no rain fade at 80m distance with wAPs check if they are aligned correctly.” Thoughts? http://forum.mikrotik.com/t/wap60g-5ghz-support/115285/21
As long as there is direct line of sight it should work.
The wAP 60 are very forgiving with alignment, they will steer the main lobe as needed. The only problem you might have
is reflections confusing the beam selection algorithm (the hint would be a changing tx-sector parameter). In that
case lowering power may help, making reflection signals stay below the threshold to be considered “significant”.
I have had that particular issue in a 20 m long link (one of the units is sitting on a two wall and a window corner)
and lowering power a bit made the link rock solid.
