I have several Mikrotik devices, but my wAPax is the only one that's using 88–90% of its memory, even though nothing special is running or installed on it—it's basically set to default. Is that normal ?

My wAP AX configured as CAP is using 223MB of 256MB. Uptime of 10 hrs, 7.25rc1. Solid as rock, nothing to worry about in my opinion.
You talk about default...is it used as router (I think that is default) or accesspoint?
My haP-AX2 and CAP-AX's, used as AP only under CapsMan are using about 360MB out of 1024MB, fwiw . . . No firewalls, no filters, just 4 SSIDs. (Granted, ARM64)
haP-AC2 running 2 SSID's, a station mode radio, ipsec, firewall and router is running in around 80MB out of 128MB. It may be due to a typical tendency of Linux kernels to use free memory as buffer. (Not sure how ROS may or may not use this feature.)
If it's not blowing it out and crashing, myself, I would not worry.
yes, used as router ![]()
This.
Memory is there to be used.
My question comes from the fact that my wAPpax is the only one in my fleet that keeps showing a kernel failure from time to time.
THAT'S another thing which you did not mention before.
That may not happen.
You're running latest ROS version on it ?
Already created support ticket with supout.rif included ?
yes … running 7.24.5 … yes supout sent. Mikrotik suspects the Wi-Fi driver… but who knows ![]()
Does it also happen if you, as temporary workaround, reboot that device daily on a fixed schedule ?
Also tried clean netinstall of that device ?
I have 1 cap ac where I still have to leave that schedule in place after applying wifi-qcom-ac driver.
I should netinstall it to be sure but I keep that reboot for now, a bit easier for me.
Netinstall might be an option, but I only have Macs, so I'll have to look into whether and how it works on a Mac ![]()
You can also use the netinstall package which is available since 7.24. This is very convenient (it downloads the necessary install packages itself).
Ahhhhh cooool … didn’t know that ![]()
