Way to discover the admin's pass of the router

Hey there.

The current situation is the following. I need to upgrade two separate networks (in the different locations) with new 1Gbt devices (100mb currently installed). The network and both mikrotik has been configured a years ago (5+), and respectively the person who did this “doesnt remember” the password ( it is common when it has no longer working for this company).

I have a local access to both mikrotiks but cannot log in to check the config files and edit it. Is there any way to have just their configs without the admin password of them? I did try with Netinstall with my own mikrotik and use “keep current configuration” hoping that the admin password may be reset, but it isnt work like that obviously. I did research and didnt find nothing helpful, but i may miss something.

I would appreciate if anyone knows and share me if theres any possible way to do this.

Thanks in advance !

Hire that person again or ask for consultancy. There is a chance that memory would refrersh.

If you pay someone enough, they'll surely remove the password by hacking the internal files on flash.
Reading the old one is out of the question.

Thanks all. Seems like the password remember is the best option for me. We shall see if he can do this

If you have read access... you should be able export file=export.rsc from terminal to get the config. Now if you don't have "sensitive" policy on your current account, then the export be minus any account passwords or "secrets"/certificates/etc for VPN/etc. but you may not need those (or they may be on the device/service at other end of the tunnel/service/etc)
