WDS MESH ON 2.4GHZ

Dear all,

I want to set up a wds mesh network using my metal at 2.4GHZ for my roaming client and i will like to know the weakness of such network. and also how to secured my wds mesh network .

If some one have some inconviniency with such network pls just share it with me

2.4 is a small band with only 3 non-overlapping 20Mhz channels. This is a big inconvenience with 2.4 right there, but when you add WDS, there are more issues. Bandwidth is essentially cut in half because for every transmission from a client of a WDS-AP, it takes a second transmission to send to the main AP (or even worse if there is a chain of WDS links to traverse).

Basically, it is best if you can get a wire to each ap if at all possible, but understandably, sometimes it is not. Second-best choice would be to use dual-band with one band for dedicated backhaul/mesh interface, and second band for the AP facing users’ devices.
