Hi,
I have the following setup with a number of Mikrotiks. Under the WDS tab of each WLAN interface, WDS Mode is set to “Dynamic”. I also have created & selected the sole bridge (which includes all ethernet ports + WLAN interface).
Rapid STP is also set on the bridge of each Mikrotik. The Wireless tab settings of each Mikrotik is as follows -
Mode: ap bridge
Band: 2.4GHz-B/G
Freq: 2437
Identical SSID.
This setup appears to work. Each Mikrotik can connect to other Mikrotiks and “extend” the network. Is this technically “meshing”? I do note there is a separate “Mesh” area within Winbox which I am not using. How does this tie-in to this setup?
What I don’t quite understand is that if look at one particular Mikrotik on the edge of a network (size = 1km in diameter), this Mikrotik has a WDS connections to all other Mikrotiks in the network?.. even though it could not directly reach them via 802.11? ie, this Mikrotik can only “reach” one other Mikrotik due to the distance between, however the Interfaces tab shows -
R wlan1 Wireless (Atheros AR5…)
DRA ↔ wds1 WDS
DRA ↔ wds2 WDS
DRA ↔ wds3 WDS
DRA ↔ wds4 WDS
I had thought that WDS connnections were only made via 802.11 ?
