I am trying to tie two mikrotik RB112 units together via WDS. They both need to service clients as well as the bridge between them. All I want the secondary unit to do is expand the network. I am a little fuzzy on what I need to set on the secondary unit.
I have dynamic WDS enabled on both units. I have the secondary unit wlan1 interface set to “wds slave”. The secondary unit does not have a IP address assigned to the wlan1 interface. I have the wlan1 interface in the secondary unit set with the same SSID as the primary on the same radio channel. They can see and connect to each other. The signal strength hovers around -70dBm.
I am sending data over the bridge and some reason when I MAC ping the secondary unit from the primary, I get a lot of packet loss.
Do I need to assign IP addresses to the secondary unit wlan cards or bridge?
Do I need to enable the SSID on the secondary wlan1 card?
What else can you think of that I’m missing to get the units to work properly? As of right now, they are not working. The secondary unit seems to be expanding the network, but it is not giving out DHCP. When I manually assign an IP to my laptop, it will not ping out. It is like the secondary unit is online and talking to the primary, but not data is going across the bridge.
Thanks!!
