Problem: the wds slave unit will disconnect (shows “no beacons” or “sent deauth” in log on master) then reconnect like 20-50seconds later. it sometimes will keep doing this for while.
What radio do have that can make 1W (30dBm) of power – tx-power is set to 30dBm? As I know, there no such radio. You are overdriving the radio and therefore the problem.
DONT CHANGE THINGS THAT YOU DONT UNDERSTAND
I suggest the you reset the entire config back to default “/system reset” – and be sure that you have a serial cabled connected when you do that.
hmm..ok i knew that 30dbm was ~ 1 Watt and i knew the 8602 could not push that but here is the reason i switched it from 26dbm:
On serveral of my Ap’s i will see someone connect at a low RSSI, with alot of packetloss as identfied by pining them. i noticed that by switching the default TX power from 26 to 30 it would ALWAYS help.
I know im potentially blasting at the small laptop wifi radio pretty hard, which should make it harder for me to hear it back, but i’ve seen to work WAY to many times to say it hocus pocus.
now the WDS slave is reassosicating every hour, some times twice an hour. A while back when i was having this issue i remeber setting the wds slave to Station instade of APB and that helped it maintain connectivity, but was not what i needeed as i need the WDS slave to accept clients.
i’m going to try lowering both slave and master to 26dbi. and will report back.
thanks for the quick responses!!
joe
EDIT: setting the slave at 26 and the master at 26 has caused the RSSI to drop 5 db..what ever its worth…not a prob since im at -72
EDIT2: Still getting disconnects every 4 hours or so, but they are not long enough to cause a reboot like before.
?
Looks to me like you have two “ap-bridge”…not a master and slave situation.
Have you tried the wds-slave and wds-station setting yet?
We’ve had lots of problems with disconnects and no beacon issues as well…and never been able to completely narrow the problem down.
Periodic calibration seemed to correct it most of the time, but not completely.
Well now it seems to be resetting MANY TIMES AN HOUR. This is such a problem… Its my understanding that you can have both points in AP mode, acting as a repeater as long as WDS mode is on. I was told that setting a unit to WDS slave or wds station is not a good idea. Plus i was getting resets like this as well and was told to switch from wds station to just station..
Why cant we get an official response on this? It seems to be a problem for ALOT of people as seen through the threads.
Im fine with one disconnect a day, but this is un acceptable for me and my customers…this is hourly now..
Does ANYONE have a WDS setup with minimum disconnects / resets and can post their wlan configs.
here is what i get in the logs:

if anyone is using wds as a method of bridging to a repeater (ie. bridging and serving wifi customers) can you please post your settings or if you are having problems with disconnects.
