Ok, to many ‘vs’ in the subject.
My problem is that I have a large development, about 100 clients spread over an area that all want to use their laptops to connect. I.o.w. not buy CPEs. (Almost) All repeaters can see each other, but due to metal roofs, I have to install a few to cover most angles to clients inside their houses.
So I setup about 7 APs to cover the area, all with WDS.
Almost exactly like in here:
http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Mesh_wds This is working, but … There is a lot of other interference in the area, so I thought of using WDS because it will only use 1 frequency. To have 7 different frequencies on 2.4GHz in close proximity is a non-starter…
Obviously now with WDS I take a huge performance hit. Even if I ping from a repeater to the ‘main’ ap, ping times vary between 8ms and 300ms.
- Would MME help me with my current setup? Would I need to change a lot?
- Would MESH help me, i.o.w. if I add another card to each AP to be used a uplink. But would that now mean each AP will have to have different frequency?
I suppose I just need some advice on getting best ‘roaming’ setup where I use as little frequencies as possible, get as much throughput and client load as possible.
Thanks in advance
