WDS x Routed. Does I loose bandwith

If I have a sequence of AP, lets say:
AP1_office ----- AP2_building ------ AP3_hill ---- AP4_tower

If all AP have WDS enabled, so far I understand, all will use the same radio Frequency and same SSID. But then I suspect that if AP3 is comunicating with any of his local clients, nither AP2 nor AP4 could comunicat with any other client, as the freq is in use by AP3. Perhaps Ap1 could if no signal from AP3 reach it .

If I use diferent freq to comunicate between office–Building—hill----tower I think I need to setup routes and diferend IP blocks for each AP, but than I could have comunications at AP3 simultaneosly while AP1 or AP2 is comunicating to some of there local clients and so have better global bandwith.

Are me thoughts correct ?

Any sugestion whats better to grow a wireless network where I have lots of obstacle and can reach central office direct from AP that could atend clients ?

Also, supose that AP4_tower can also connect to office, can I make some kind of redundanth path with that (either with WDS or routing) ?

Thanks,

Alex

Hi, I have more or less the same situation you do, but it’s been half a year, so I thought you’ve already solved it, did you?
How did you do it?

Thing is, how do you connect 4 APs using WDS?
I’m stuck with that!

Chofex

Im not sure I understand your problem. We have a chain of three and
sometimes four AP’s linked by WDS, and they pass traffic through WDS
independently of Hotspot or PPPOE users. We use the path as a backup
when our 5ghz links go down. AP1>AP2>AP3
and AP1>AP2>AP4>AP3 paths exist on WDS, but with the 1,2,3,4 APs all acting as hotspots and PPPOE servers.

Ican’t make two APs see each other!
I can make an AP see a station (client), but I can’t make it see another AP.
I must be doing something wrong when configuring the AP, but I can’t see what it is…
Let’s say I reset my routerboard, blanking it all.
I then enable wlan1, specify ssid, ap bridge mode, frequency, and wpa2 security. Then I move to WDS an put it to dinamic.
Then I make a bridge between ether1 and wlan1.

I do all the same at the other AP.

What am I missing???
