Hi.
Why do we need a passive PoE in 2018/2019? Is this a kind of a vendor-lock by MikroTik when everyone supports 802.3af/at?
I’m happy to see a switch CRS305-1G-4S+IN and a router hEX S with PoE in 802.3af/at.
But again hEX S: PoE out Passive PoE.
hEX PoE: PoE in Passive PoE, PoE out 802.3af/at.
RB4011iGS+RM: PoE in / out Passive PoE
Why is it so?
It’s absolutely unpredictable if a new hardware will support 802.3af/at. And it’s a lottery if it will be for uplink or downlinks.
I’ve also seen a multiple evidences of a mess with Type A / Type B implementation in MikroTik hardware. Is it still the same in 2018 when it is stated a 802.3af/at support?
